Milja Laakso is a Finnish-Sri Lankan photographer currently based in Antwerp, Belgium.

Her work focuses mainly on portraiture, fashion and abstract imagery, as well as olfactory art. Drawing inspiration from her mixed background and roots, she explores themes of identity, minimalism, femininity and masculinity, florals and the human body and skin.

Her process often involves working by hand, manipulating prints, experimenting with textures and embracing a natural approach to create images that are both tactile and introspective. 

Laakso has previously collaborated with the Finnish Museum of Photography and currently studies at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts Antwerp. Through her practice, she aims to make the experience of witnessing photography more immersive and sensory.
